I suck at blogging...

So its been a while... Ok it's been a REALLY long time, but I have much to share.

the stator was a total write off, I tried to find a points setup for a decent price, but ended up just spending the extra money and grabbing a malossi/ducati CDI from benji. After a quick run through from ratbike, I set up the cdi for 1.8mm btdc and was off. The bike has been running seize free since, but is still lacking, and very weird jetting wise. SO... I have decided its time for a full rebuild, I've ordered new seals and bearings, gaskets, new headset, new forks ( since MY k10 forks are stripped.) and I've torn the bike apart for paint.

While taking apart the bike I found some interesting facts, my back wheel, had crushed bearings, and my headset? no bearings at all. none. not a single bearing.

This blog, will be following a very stubborn 1971 Peugeot 103's road to recovery.
The story starts about a year ago, I had purchased the bike for 250 dollars in "running" condition. The bike wouldn't idle, had airleaks, and little to no power, but I was in love. So, Off I went to pick her up.
About a week into owning it, I stumbled across a wonderful little site known as Treats. I lurked around the online store, and gathered information on moped army, to see what could make my bike a little faster.
After a lot of reading, and a lot of questions, I was still pretty confused. BUT.. I kept at it and after about 6-7 months I had my orders placed and waited patiently.
What I ordered was.
  • Malossi 70cc 6 port cast iron kit
  • Malossi 19mm phbg intake
  • Malossi 90 degree air filter
  • Malossi "special" drive belt
  • Delortto 19.5mm phbg carb
  • Clear fuel line
  • Inline fuel filter
  • Ninja g3 exhaust
  • Pink handlebar grips
  • Jets ranging from 70-100
The first attempt to remove my stock jug and piston, resulted in a destroyed needle bearing. After taking a month or two off to cool down and regroup, I began re-assembly with a fresh needle bearing, and a lot more experience with tools. The kitting went very well, I then began to install the rest of the parts I had bought.
I removed the old intake studs and replaced them with hardened allen bolts, added new gaskets, and installed the intake, carb, exhaust and the few small odds and ends and started my bike up. VROOOOMM putt. Oh no, no power wouldn't go over 30. I posted a few pictures up and somebody pointed out to me that the exhaust swing mount was mounted incorrectly, I fixed the mount and... Dear lord this bike is fast, I was passing cars in town and blasting hard. I remembered my rules, no WOT and vary speed during break in. BUT, I sprung an airleak and seized. After taking the head off I saw that the damage was not lethal, got rid of my airleaks, and off I went again.
Fast forward about 2 weeks, I am in the middle of the country, and riding happily.. when all of a sudden I lock up, Hard. I look down to see my condensor wedged between the coil and the hole in the flywheel, almost escaped! My stator had been torn up pretty bad. So my next entry, Will most likely be telling you about how much I love my new CDI. :)
